Your First Visit

Welcome!

Thank you for selecting Dental Care for Kids to treat your childs dental health needs. Our practice is dedicated to providing the highest standard of dental care, while maintaining a fun and relaxed environment. Our entire staff is specifically trained in the treatment of children.

YOUR CHILDS FIRST VISIT

Children should begin visiting the pediatric dentist no later than the age of 2 years. We follow the AAPD and AAP recommendations that children should receive their first dental visit within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth or age one, whichever comes first. A childs initial dental visit often sets the tone for subsequent attitudes about dental care and oral health. It is quite important to establish good feelings about going to the dentist at an early age. Dental care for kids goal is not for the child just to have a tolerable visit to the office, but to have great visits every time!

At Dental Care for Kids your child will encounter a fun, relaxed, and safe environment where they will learn about proper oral health and hygiene habits, from our wonderful staff.

MAY I ACCOMPANY MY CHILD

Parents are encouraged to come into the treatment area on the first visit to see the office and to meet the doctor. The staff will make a great effort to ensure that your child feels comfortable in our office. We hope that you will become comfortable enough to allow them to enter the treatment area by themselves on subsequent visits. Through experience, we have learned that some childrens behavior is better without a parent present. This helps us focus 100% of our attention on your child.

Occasionally, Dr. Whitt or Dr. Coletti may feel that a child would respond with better behavior if a parent is present. If we do ask a parent or guardian to accompany their child into the treatment area, we suggest that they act as a silent and supportive observer. It is important for us to establish cooperation and trust directly with each patient.

While we welcome a parent as a silent observer during treatment we do ask that siblings either remain home or in the waiting room. This allows staff to focus on the child with treatment needs and maintain a safe & positive dental experience for our patients & future patients.

PREVENTIVE VISITS AND ORTHODONTICS

Based on the results of your childs first visit and initial examination, we may recommend one or more follow up visits for completion of any existing dental treatment.

We also recommend that your child be seen every six months for preventive care. During these biannual appointments, Dr. Whitt or Dr. Coletti will also assess your childs dental and skeletal developments and how it relates to future orthodontic treatments.

Many times extensive and costly dental and orthodontic treatment can be averted through timely pediatric care as the face, jaw, and teeth are developing.
